LEE CHING-YU PREVENTED FROM BEIJING VISIT BY CHINA|台胞證被註銷 李凈瑜北京救夫受阻

Top stofy today, Lee Ching-yu, wife of former DPP staffer Lee Ming-che, who is being detained somewhere in China, was unable to leave Taiwan and fly to China to trace her husband's whereabouts as China revoked her travel permit. Lee thinks this is confirmation that her husband's detention is a politically driven move. In response to the development, the Mainland Affairs Council and Straits Exchange Foundation both expressed their regret and protest. Meanwhile, a Legislative Yuan committee held an ad hoc meeting, which resulted in a call urging China to immediately release Lee Ming-che. ==Ground staff vs LEE CHING-YU== Are you Ms. Lee? Yes. Ms. Lee, we received notification from Beijing that your China travel document has been revoked and cannot be accepted for travel to China. Lee Ching-yu was notified by ground staff when she attempted to check-in for her flight to China that her China travel document had been revoked. ==LEE CHING-YU== I'm just a feeble woman going to visit, does the Chinese government really need to use its power to obstruct me? This just proves to the outside world that the detention of my husband is a politically-motivated. Lee also showed a letter from a Taiwanese man named Lee Jun-min (no relation) whom she said was working for China and had tried to dissuade her from traveling. The letter from Lee Jun-min said that if he managed to persuade Lee Ching-yu to maintain a low key attitude about her husband, then China would not publicly release Lee Ming-che's confession video and would allow the wife and husband to meet. Lee Ching-yu characterized this as a threat. ==LEE CHING-YU== Lee Jun-min threatened me and harangued me, but I was not intimidated. I asked him for a written promise as evidence. The reason I couldn't accept any such promise, is that I think freedom and dignity should be respected. The Straits Exchange Foundation had originally arranged for two members to accompany Lee to China. The SEF expressed regret and said it would continue to urge China to allow family members to visit Lee Ming-che, so as not to adversely affect cross-strait relations.
