PRESIDENT TSAI INSPECTS REFURBISHED LINKOU POWER PLANT|蔡總統視察林口電廠 今夏起投入供電

President Tsai Ing-wen went on a tour of the refurbished Linkou Power Plant ahead of the peak electricity usage season. The inspection is both an encouragement and a show of vigilance against any problems. In addition to new generation units, the Linkou Power Plant has also received over NT$10 billion for environmental upgrades. The visit is the Tsai government's way to show its dedication to Taiwan's energy transition and renewing current coal-fired plants to international environmental standards. In addition to raising staff morale, Tsai's visit is also meant to show vigilance against any problems with the plant. ==TSAI ING-WEN President== The Linkou Power Plant is a role model among Taiwan's coal-fired power plants in terms of air pollution management. The new Unit 1 and Unit 2 are now operational at full capacity. With these two new units, we are confident that we can maintain a stable power supply this summer. The Linkou Power Plant expansion involves more than new units. Taipower also invested over NT$10 billion in environmental measures, transporting and storing coal in fully sealed spaces. Its pollutant emissions are better than current standards and close to that of natural gas plants. Tsai reiterated the government's dedication to energy transition milestones in 2025. ==TSAI ING-WEN President== Coal-fired electricity generation does affect air quality, but technology can help solve our problems. Our target by 2025 is to have natural gas account for 50% of total power generation, coal 30%, and green energy 20%. In other words, in the foreseeable future coal power will still be an important component of Taiwan's base load. Tsai's visit to the Linkou Power Plant and praise for it as a role model is a way for the government to show its dedication to the energy transition, as well as encouragement for Taipower to renew current coal-fired plants to reach international environmental standards.
