Following Kaohsiung, Taipei's new online taxi service was recently debuted. These taxis, driven by trained and licensed drivers, come in different colors and vehicle types, and are allowed to pick up passengers only through smartphone apps. This app allows users to chose the type of car and level of service they want to call for a taxi service. After choosing the vehicle it will arrive at a designated time. The vehicle looks the same as any other private vehicle, but is fitted with a taxi meter. It is one of the online taxis that the Ministry of Transportation and Communications has created as an alternative to Uber. Now both Kaohsiung and Taipei have this type of taxi service. ==CHEN DENG taxi operator== From now until the end of the year, there will be 50 to 60 vehicles and next year, around 300. The cars are not yellow and cannot pick up passengers by the roadside, but only through the app. The meter is calibrated as a taxi but to the type of vehicle and time. The meter starts at NT$70 the same as a normal taxi. At its most expensive it cannot go over twice the price of a taxi for the same journey. Currently in Kaohsiung 80 percent of such vehicles have business on a given day, which is higher than the ordinary taxis, 60 percent of whom have business on any day.
