First in today's international news, Romania's ruling Social Democrats appealed for calm on Monday after withdrawing a decree widely condemned as reversing the country's anti-corruption drive, but more than 500 thousand protesters across the country again took to the streets to demand the government's resignation on the sixth day of one of the largest demonstrations seen in the country's history. The Romanian Government made an emergency repeal on the law for releasing corrupted officials. The Victory Square in the capital Bucharest was crowded by 300,000 protesters. They turned on their mobile phone flash lights to show their presence. Some protesters used laser beams for reflecting anti-corruption slogans over the walls of parliament. Some people blame the government as thief, stealing properties from people and showing no respect to its people. ==PROTESTER== I hope maybe the government will fall, and this is what we want. Because I think they are zero in everything, zero respect for us. And they think we have zero dignity, but they have zero dignity, not us. ==PROTESTER== People have come from other towns to Bucharest to the Victory Square to change something. We are ready to make Romania a clean country, for our children and for our own future. Romania is the second poorest nation in the European Union, with serious corruption problems. The new Prime Minister Grindeanu issued a provisional order stating that if the income for corrupted officials not exceed US$48,000 or NT$1.5 million equivalent, the government shall only seek for the monetary loss, no crime will be prosecuted. The government plans to have the provisional order become effective by Feb. 10. However it provoked a large scale of protest ever since the communist party collapsed in 1989. The prime minister explained the order was to solve the problem of overcrowded prisons. However his opponents criticized the order was aiming to release his corrupted comrades. Although Prime Minister Grindeanu repealed the order, but the demonstration has been getting larger. By Feb. 5, there was a total of 500,000 Romanians protested on the streets. The Constitution Court is to make a verdict over the legitimacy later this week.
