NIGERIA DEMANDS TAIWAN RENAME REPRESENTATIVE OFFICE UNDER ONE-CHINA POLICY|奈國:不承認台灣是國家 請辦事處摘牌

An official statement has been issued by the Nigerian government to demand that Taiwan remove its representative office in Nigeria's capital, Abuja. The Nigerian government jointly held a press conference with China's Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi, stressing that under the One-China Policy, Taiwan is not to be considered a country. In response, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged Nigeria not to leave the negotiating table just yet. Presidential Office spokesperson Alex Huang said that China's suppression would only lead to Taiwanese people's abhorrence towards China. In a joint press conference with China's Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi, the Nigerian government announced that it would commit to the One-China policy and not recognize Taiwan as a country. The Trade Mission of the ROC was established in 1991. Last year, the bilateral trade between Taiwan and Nigeria only reached $200 million. Scholars suggest that the current unstable cross-strait relations and the President's Central American visit have given rise to China's deliberate diplomatic humiliation and warning.
