PRESIDENT TSAI OFFERS SCHOLARSHIPS, ECONOMIC COOPERATION TO HONDURAS|台.宏總統會達共識 促進雙方經貿交流

On Jan. 10, President Tsai arrived in Honduras, the first leg of her trip to Central America, and met with President Juan Hernandez. The two leaders agreed on an increase in scholarship to encourage more Honduran students to study in Taiwan. Later on the same day, President Tsai landed in Nicaragua and met with President Daniel Ortega. Tsai pledged economic assistance to Nicaragua while President Ortega said he will support Taiwan's participation in international society. President Tsai visited the Honduras President's Office and talked with President Juan Orlando Hernandez. First, they agree on the increase on scholarship, allowing more Honduran students to study in Taiwan. Second, Taiwan is to assist and offer experiences to Honduran micro businesses; also Taiwan is to participate in the Five Major Industrial Development Plan 2020 and to motivate Taiwan companies to invest in Honduras and enhance bilateral trades. ==TSAI ING-WEN R.O.C. President== In addition, we are going to organize our enterprises, so they will have opportunity to assess the Honduras for investment and explore further for more investment opportunities. President Tsai sought to stabilize bilateral relations via economic cooperation. One of the main reasons is that in recent years, Chinese investment has exerted influence there. Among the Chinese companies, China's Huawei Group has been the most aggressive in investment affecting to some extent diplomatic relations between Taiwan and Honduras. President Tsai later landed in Nicaragua around 7 am Taiwan time, and met with President Daniel Ortega.
