UN TO SET UP SPECIAL TEAM INVESTIGATING SYRIA WAR CRIMES|敘利亞內戰六年 UN將依戰爭罪調查

With a civil war ravaging in the past six years, half of the Syrian population has been displaced and hundreds of thousands lives were lost. On Dec 22, the United Nations passed a resolution to form an independent team to conduct investigations, gather evidence, and prosecute war crimes as well as crimes against humanity committed during the civil war. Meanwhile, the evacuation of civilians from eastern Aleppo continues, and the little girl from Aleppo who has captured worldwide attention with her tweets has arrived in Turkey safely with her family. The United Nations General Assembly voted to establish a special team with 105 in favor, 15 against and 52 abstentions. The independent team will investigate the war crimes and crimes against humanity committed during the Syrian civil war, as well as collect and preserve evidence for prosecutions. Syria and its allies Russia and Iran voted against the resolution. The Syrian ambassador to the UN also made a statement denouncing the resolution as interfering with Syrian internal affairs. ==BASHAR AL-JA'AFARI, Syrian UN Ambassador== The establishment of such a mechanism is a flagrant interference in the internal affairs of a U.N. member state. The resolution was proposed by Liechtenstein. Liechtenstein U.N. Ambassador stressed that the lack of action from the UN has indirectly encouraged the repeated atrocities that have occurred in the Syrian civil war. Since the beginning of the war in March 2011, over 400,000 have been killed, and half of the 22 million Syrian population has become displaced refugees. On the other hand, the evacuation of eastern Aleppo continues, with 25,000 people evacuated to safety.
