TAIWAN-JAPAN-US SECURITY DIALOGUE HOLDS IN TAIPEI|台美日安全對話 聚焦台美合作."一中"爭議

At a security dialogue panel between Taiwan, Japan and the United States held yesterday, US representatives reiterated Washington's belief that no country should be subject to intimidation and isolation. Meanwhile, in response to Trump's recent comments on the One China Policy, Beijing's Taiwan Affairs Office said yesterday that recognizing there is only One China is the foundation for peace across the Taiwan Strait and between China and America. Regarding reports from foreign media that Taiwanese Allies could be poached by Beijing, Foreign Minister David Lee said diplomatic pressure from China is nothing new. The U.S. Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo and the former Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman both participated in the panel. Sherman was one of the key staff to the Democratic Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton. As to the remark on one-China policy made by the Presidential-elect Donald Trump, Sherman said that the U.S. believes no country should be intimidated or isolated. ==WENDY SHERMAN, former Under Sec. of State for Political Affairs USA== We have had the United States, Taiwan, a policy that had served us well for decades, that any issues are resolved through mutual agreement, that we all strive for peace and prosperity, and it is very important to have continuity and consistency. The United States also believes it is very important that no country be intimidated or isolated. Sherman further pointed out that she strongly support the Taiwan-US relations and she looks forward to meeting with President Tsai. In the same time, China reiterates one-China policy is a political foundation to the progress of China-US relations. ==AN FENG-SHAN, Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council PRC== One-China Policy is the important political foundation to the progress of China-U.S. relations; it is also a cornerstone to the peace and stability for the cross-strait. If the foundation were sabotaged, not only the healthy stable progress of China-U.S. relations will be discontinued, peace and stability on the cross-strait relations will suffer from serious impacts. Minister Lee further said, Donald Trump is to inaugurate on January 20 next year, and Trump is to nominate ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson for secretary of state. Tillerson is very experienced on international operations, Minister Lee said that he looks forward to working with the State Department under Tillerson's leadership.
