Transportation Minister Whiten Tan was criticized for not being able to handle TransAsia airways' abrupt dissolution. The Minster was not only blasted for bad crisis management, and for not having been more in touch on the ground but that he failed to coordinate response efforts with the Executive Yuan. That's right, because, in the Executive Yuan's announcement on November 23rd, all of TransAsia's international and domestic routes will be taken over by China Airlines, barring the route connecting Kinmen and Penghu. However, Whiten initially said that China Airlines will only take over two of TransAsia's domestic routes, while the rest will be distributed among other Taiwanese airlines. On Nov. 23, The Executive Yuan announced that China Airlines will take over all of TransAsia's international and domestic routes. However, MOTC's Civil Aeronautics Administration said CAL will only take over two domestic routes operated exclusively by TransAsia. On Nov. 24, the Executive Yuan again said CAL will take over all services from TransAsia. ==HSU KUO-YUNG, Executive Yuan spokesman== I hereby emphasize again that CAL will take over all of TransAsia's routes. The takeover will be a short- term measure. ==LIN KUO-HSIEN, Director-General of CAA== We are in sync with the Executive Yuan. During the meeting, CAL said they are willing to take over all of TransAsia's routes. We decided to ask CAL to take over the Taipei-Hualien route and the Taichung-Hualien route first. MOTC Minister Whiten Tan said the government does not consider taking over the troubled airline. He said the most important issue at hand is to protect passengers' rights. As to how to transport passengers during the Spring Festival next year, the CAA said it will issue an alternative transportation plan before Dec. 6.
