TRANSASIA AIRWAYS NEGOTIATION BROKE, UNION TO HOLD PROTESTS|復興首次勞資協商破局 工會:不排除上街頭

TransAsia Airway's abrupt dissolution have angered many of its employees, who had been kept in the dark. Yesterday the first labor-capital meeting was held at 8:30 in the morning, but labor representatives were brusquely demanded by security personnel to present identifications and hand in their phones before entering the meeting room. On top of that, they were kept from voice recording the proceedings. Seeing what they experienced as a significant lack of goodwill on the part of TransAsia, labor representatives withdrew their participation and walked out on the meeting. According to the union, who met with the company again in the afternoon, more drastic means of protest will be undertaken if no goodwill is shown. The TransAsia Airways Workers' Union Vice President Pang was holding a meeting notice written by the Executive Officer Liu Tung-ming. Pang accused the management has no sincerity to negotiate with workers. The Union had pointed out, the management not only checked each participant, and no recordings were allowed. Furthermore, participants were asked to surrender mobile phones at the entrance. Therefore, the Union refused to negotiate with the management. ==PANG MIN-YI, TransAsia Airways Workers' Union Vice-President== Mr. Liu Tung-ming, we have 20 employees here, why don't you let us in and negotiate with you? We are willing to sit down and talk to you, why are you not willing to talk to us? The TransAsia Airways Board of Directors had passed corporation dissolution without notice on November 22. All employees are to be laid off. The Union was to settle three proposals to the management: adopting the old severance pay rates, one month pay for one year service; additional NT$300,000 for breaching contract and NT$200,000 for compensation; and 60-day advanced notice is required. However, the Union said, they were hampered in ways of nuisance before the meeting. ==MISS WU, TransAsia Airways Flight Attendant== Our colleagues lost their lives in the crashes, we blamed no one. However, we had accompanied the TransAsia Airway for a long way. Each of us here, we were never absent. We did not turn away because of the air crashes. However, this is the ending we got. The Union stated, some employees had worked for 25 years, and they are to be laid off. The Union currently has 200 members, and they urge 1,800 TransAsia employees to join for solidarity. If they do not receive a positive response from the management, the Union will mobilize protests again.
