KMT PROTESTS JAPANESE FOOD IMPORTS AT EXECUTIVE YUAN|拒核災區食品輸入 藍營集結政院前抗議

On the morning of Nov 18, KMT city councilors and local representatives gathered outside the Executive Yuan to protest Japanese food imports from nuclear disaster-affected areas. Protesters said they hope the government can listen to the public's opinions and stop its policy to open up the imports of radiation contaminated food. They asked Premier Lin Chuan to sign a letter of commitment. Premier Lin said in response that he hopes rational communication can prevail and this issue should not be politicized. Local councilors and representatives and hundreds of people protested in front to the Executive Yuan. They refused to allow food imports from Japan's nuclear disaster-affected prefectures. Some protestors staged street theater plays, and some kicked a cardboard cut-out of President Tsai Ing-wen to vented their anger. ==HSIEH LUNG-CHIEH, KMT Tainan Councilor== We care about our motherland, Taiwan. We cannot let it be polluted. The 4th nuclear power plant has been suspended. Then why are we allowing radiation contaminated food to enter Taiwan? The Yunlin County Council was the first local government to pass an amendment to its local food regulations that explicitly bans radiation contaminated food imports from Japan to be sold within the county. The Miaoli County followed suit, and the KMT is calling other 14 local councils to do the same. ==Fu Da-Wei, KMT Chiayi City councilor== The day before yesterday the KMT Chiayi City councilors have been calling on the mayor to make Chiayi City a food safety capital. ==CHEN MAI-CHUAN, KMT Kaohsiung City Councilor== We also want all county and city leaders across the Taiwan to take a stand for public safety and say NO to the Tsai administration. KMT City Councilor Hsieh Lung-Chieh and protesters attempted to storm the Executive Yuan and asked the Premier to come out and talk to them. The scene quickly turned violent and chaotic. Premier Lin Chuan was away visiting Nantou County's Puli Township but responded to the protest. ==LIN CHUAN, Premier== If we open up the market, we will make sure the public understands our reasons. Therefore we welcome any opposing opinions, objections, or concerns from the public. However, I hope this issue does not become politicized because that would cause antagonism within society and will not help us solve public policy issues. Eventually, the Executive Yuan Food Safety Office Sheu Fuu accepted the letter of protest and invited the 12 local representatives to a meeting inside the Executive Yuan building.
