CHINA SUPRESSES MA AS FORMER PRESIDENT IN ECONOMIC SUMMIT|馬出訪馬國遭陸打壓 "前總統"頭銜被拿掉

Cross-strait relations are indeed an intricate matter. The latest person to fall victim to China's increasing hostility is former President Ma Ying-jeou, who attended the World Chinese Economic Summit in Malaysia yesterday. For reasons that were very likely connected to Beijing's influence, Ma's official title as the former President of Taiwan was nowhere to be seen. In defiance of Chinese pressure, Ma decided to wear a badge made by his own staff that read "his excellency Ma Ing-jeou, former president of the Republic of China". ==MA YING-JEOU, Former ROC President== We were prepared for any unexpected situations. Last night we made a badge that says "Former President of the Republic of China Dr. Ma Ying-jeou". Former President Ma Ying-jeou prepared his own badge to resist China's suppression at the World Chinese Economic Summit. Instead of "former president", his title has been written in the agenda as "world Chinese leader". His keynote address title "The Prospects for Closer Relations between Taiwan and the ASEAN Economies" has also been replaced with "The Role of Overseas Chinese in Shaping the Global Agenda on Economy, Technology and Humanity". ==MA YING-JEOU, Former ROC President== The former Indonesian President is also here.
