TRUMP'S VICTORY REFLECTS DISCONTENT OF WHITE WORKING CLASS|

Despite the fact that pre-election polls have mostly unanimously pointed to a Clinton victory, it was Donald Trump who won the race for the White House yesterday, a jaw-dropping development for many around the world. But Trump's triumph also reminds people of another equally jaw-dropping event a few months ago, the Brexit. Both events, which many commentators have begun to refer to as black swans, are likely the results of a disenfranchised white working class making their voice heard.
On election night, American expats in London gathered at the U.S. embassy to watch the vote. Something in the air reminded them of what had happened a mere five months ago.

All of my British friends said Brexit couldn't happen. And I as a foreigner thought you know what I think this is going to happen because it tells a deeper disconnect at heart. There're some people who really do feel disenfranchised. They feel their country and the world slipping away, and they don't want that to happen.
The two countries close in partnership, the United Kingdom and the United States, have in less than six months surprised the world with two black swan events. Many believe that at the cetner of all of this is a disaffected white working class who think cross-border immigration and globalized trade are stealing their jobs. Add a little bit of nationalism into the formula, and the result is that people are choosing the path less traveled for a change. The election of Donald Trump has and will continue to send shockwaves across global markets. But some believe that by the end of the day, uncertainties settle, and turmoil calms.

Once he establishes his cabinet, once he lays out his plans. People will be able to make their own plans. I think one man and one election year and one branch of government is not going to end the world as people are saying.
The UK voted to for a Brexit despite Obama's call for it to stay. As Britain begins to re-negotiate trade deals with the world, some experts believe Trump's election could be conducive to a UK-US bilateral free trade agreement. Yet disparaging remarks targeting Trump made by British officials during the election also means that on some level, British-American relations await repair.
