Continued warfare in Yemen has led to famine and displacement in an unraveling humanitarian crisis. The UN World Food Program said that currently more than half of Yemen's 14 million population do not have enough food, and called on the international community for assistance. The 18-year-old Saida has been suffering from acute malnutrition due to a famine in Yemen. Saida has a serious sore throat and is not able to eat except for drinking milk and juices. Her health started deteriorating since last month, she was hospitalized by having supports from a charity. Saida is not the only one, there are many other children suffering from malnutrition. Yemen last year had an outbreak of armed conflicts. A Saudi-led Arab coalition has been fighting Houthi rebels. The conflicts had caused at least 10,000 people killed and two million and fifty thousand people displaced. The conflicts also aggravated the agricultural produces under extreme weather conditions. ==HAMEEDA FADHEL, Widow Resident in Sanaa== They destroyed my son's car. We are dependent on the neighbours for food. ==HASSAN, Farmer== This millet was about to harvest, it was not enough because a rocket landed in the field and burned all the crops there. There is a big hole. The war-torn Yemen imports over 90% of its food and fuel. The Saudi warship had blockaded the port, nothing can be imported. The United Nations World Food Programme pointed out, Yemen has a population of 28 million, but over half of the population has a food shortage. Seven million people are facing famine and they need immediate humanitarian aids. ==MUHANNAD HADI, UN World Food Programme Regional Dir.== There were lots of malnourished children, there were some severely malnourished children, and we have to realize that when you have malnourishment among children, that it's compounded with other diseases: water-borne diseases, cholera - there is a cholera outbreak in some parts of Yemen. The UN World Food Programme provides basic food supply for six million people, however, it needs US$250 million for the sustenance. The major countries which provide humanitarian aids are the US, Germany, Japan and the European Union.
