According to the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics, average regular earnings from January to August this year were higher than that of last year. However, as the consumer price index increases, the actual salary is in fact lower than that of last year.
Walking into the office and sitting at her desk, Tuan Yu-Ju, who is familiar with word processing software, works hard to pay her expenses off. Tuan's monthly salary of NT$ 36,000 pays her NT$7,000 rent, NT$ 5,000 student loan, and NT$ 10,000 living expenses. She also gives her parents NT$5,000, so she cannot save much each month. She feels frustrated as her salary does not beat the inflation rate.

Salaries have not been raised for a long time. Prices are rising every year. For example instant snack noodles, and "Yakult", a probiotic dairy product, have raised their prices a lot. However, my salary remains the same. I feel that my savings are getting smaller every year.

Even if there is a rise in salaries, it is more difficult to live now, compared with the past. This is because consumer price rise faster than salaries.
According to the DGBAS, the average regular wage from January to August this year was NT$ 39,146, which is a 1.37% increase over the same period last year. However, taking the consumer price index into consideration, the average regular wage was only NT$ 37,428, which is actually 1.2% less than that of last year.
==SUN MING-TE, Economic Forecast Center Director, TIER==
Last year, the consumer price hardly rose, so we could see a more obvious rise in salaries. However, in the past two or three months, the consumer price index rose more quickly due to typhoons. I think the situation will only last for a short period of time. The government can issue some measurements to stabilize consumer prices.
DGBAS also pointed out that there was a decrease of just over 10,000 in September's unemployment rate, compared to August. The figure shows that more and more university graduates have found a job, and that the job market is taking a good turn.
