LEGISLATORS PROPOSE SAME-SEX MARRIAGE BILL|同志婚姻合法化 立委將提案啟動修法

The annual Gay Pride is about to begin on October 29, and controversies over same-sex marriage and other LGBTQ issues are once again in the spotlight. Several DPP legislators said that not only will they take part in the annual event, but they will also submit a proposal to amend existing civil codes today, so that same-sex couples can marry and adopt children. ==Legislators== Marriage equality. But in recent years, we, as well as many other countries have observed that Taiwan is way ahead of many countries on the issue of equal rights for the LGBTQ community. In the former government administration, several DPP legislators tried three times to propose legalizing same-sex marriage, but failed. Now the DPP has a majority in the Legislative Yuan, legislators will try to amend the civil code, for gay couples to marry and adopt kids. ==YU MEI-NU, DPP legislator== Regarding legal adoption for gay couples, courts should not discriminate against applicants based on their gender, sexual orientation, identity or traits during the court review on adoptions. In Taiwan, a total of eleven counties and cities accept declarations of same-sex partners in Household Registration Offices. However, the declarations are not legally binding. DPP legislators are to propose the amendment in the Legislative Yuan on October 25. Will the proposal pass this time? Supporters and opponents are watching closely.
