Nobel Prize in Physics to David J. Thouless, 2 others / 諾貝爾物理學獎 美國三學者共享殊榮

This year's Nobel Prize in Physics has been announced yesterday evening Taiwan time. Thouless and the other half to jointly to F. Duncan M. Haldane and J. Michael Kosterlitz for theoretical discoveries of topological phase transitions and topological phases of matter". The 82-year-old Thouless teaches at Washington University in the United States. In 1990, he won the Israeli Wolf Prize in Physics for his research on disordered and low-dimensional systems. Haldane, who is 65 of age, teaches at Princeton, whereas the 74-year-old Kosterlitz is a professor of physics at Brown University. The trio won the Nobel for discovering and mathematically explaining previously unknown behaviors of matter in unusual phases, or states.
