President Tsai Ing-wen's declining public support has urged some DPP members to openly criticize her policies and appointment of certain officials. On August 31, President Tsai stated that it takes time for reforms to take root, and she reiterated her determination to push through the pension reform and political reform. Meanwhile, the President also said that the government will get to the bottom of Mega Bank's case, and she hoped that the public will continue to support her. Before the DPP's first central standing committee after the first 100 days in office, President Tsai Ing-wen, who is also the party's chairperson, delivered a speech to the nation. She began by mentioning that the annulment of Tainan city council speaker, Lee Chuan-chiao, is a big step towards ending political corruption for the DPP. She was also candid about the difficulties encountered by the government in pushing through policies, however, she emphasized that it takes determination and time for the reforms to take roots. ==TSAI ING-WEN R.O.C. President == Let me say this again. The purpose of the pension reform is never directed at specific industries or individuals. We chose to communicate in order to reach a consensus. Despite the slow progress, our goal is to unite everyone together to push through the reforms. President Tsai Ing-wen also stated that the government will get to the bottom of Mega Bank's case. ==TSAI ING-WEN R.O.C. President== We are taking a stand. Just like Premier Lin said yesterday, we will hold those responsible accountable. The government will get to the bottom of this case. President Tsai mentioned that the reform in ending political corruption and the pension reform have garnered much support from the public. However, according to the newest poll, support for the new government has plunged, which has urged some DPP members to openly criticize the policies. Former national policy adviser Wu Li-pei even said that there will be no tomorrow for President Tsai if Premier Lin Chuan does not step down. When asked about his opinions, Premier Lin Chuan was confident of himself. ==LIN CHUAN Premier== This is a good suggestion. I'll give it a thought. But that's the thing about political responsibility. We will continue to work hard for the President to have more tomorrows. Now that President Tsai and Premier Lin have shown their political determination to the public, it's up to the people to decide whether or not the government is worth their support as the government strives to deliver the result as they have promised.
