LAWMAKER HELD PRESS CONFERENCE ABOUT VIETMAN TRIP|越南參訪護照被扣 蘇治芬返台說明

The DPP legislator Su Chih-Fen was stranded at the airport in Vietnam after her passport was held. Her trip to Vietnam raised criticisms and questions from the public. After she's returned to Taiwan, she held a press conference and said she was there to learn more about the Formosa Plastics pollution incident, and she hopes the government can speed up the New Southbound Policy. The DPP legislator Su Chih-Fen paid a visit to the Formosa steel plant in Ha Tinh on July first. However, she did not possess a boarding pass, and her passport was held. Her passport was returned to her after representatives from Taiwan's permanent diplomatic office negotiated with the Vietnamese government. She posted the story on her Facebook, but people still question if she was there to fix the problem for Formosa Plastics. Su said in her press conference after returning to Taiwan that she was just there to find out what happened. She also said Formosa Plastics should not take all the reasonability. ==SU CHIH-FEN, DPP Legislator== Formosa Plastics should not take all the responsibility because the Vietnamese government has not made public the reason for their investigation. People speculated that Su's passport was confiscated because she made official visits in Vietnam on tourist visa. She even met with anti-government groups, an act that was considered as intervening with the Vietnamese domestic politics and may undermine the Tsai administration's New Southbound Policy. ==SU CHIH-FEN, DPP Legislator== No one asked us to report our itinerary in Vietnam or asked us any questions. I don't understand why now you're asking me why I went there on tourist visa and did not have an official itinerary. That's a strange question. Su stressed that she was there to learn about the case of water pollution caused by Formosa Plastics. She was also there to help set up a Vietnamese language program in Yunlin for women of Vietnamese origin. She is also planning to visit the Vietnam Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei to promote the New Southbound Policy.
