On July 23, an IS-linked suicide attack killed at least 83 people and wounded another 231 in the Afghanistan capital Kabul. The victims were Hazara people. They were protesting against a new power line project when the attack occurred. The attack was the deadliest bombing seen in Kabul since April, when more than 60 people were killed. Dead bodies lay on the bloodied road in Afghanistan's capital Kabul. On July 23, two suicide bombers detonated explosives into a large demonstration by Afghanistan's ethnic Hazaras. The victims were all Persian-speaking Hazaras. They are a mainly Shia group and Afghanistan's third largest minority, estimated to make up about 9 percent of the population. The Hazara were protesting against a new power line project, demanding that the transmission power line should be rerouted through their area to ensure power supply. After the attack, Afghan president Ashraf Ghani said that any attempt to separate factions in Afghanistan using terrorism will not succeed.
