Marketa Pekarova Adamova, the speaker of the Czech Republic's Chamber of Deputies, recently arrived in Taiwan and gave a speech at the Legislative Yuan on March 27.
Marketa Pekarova Adamova, the speaker of the Czech Republic's Chamber of Deputies, signed the guestbook and received a bouquet during a visit to the Legislative Yuan on March 28. She became the first female parliamentary speaker from a non-diplomatic ally to receive the first-class Medal of Honor for Parliamentary Diplomacy. Adamova's speech was titled "We are with you, please be with us" and she opened with a greeting in Chinese.

Adamova said this was the first visit by a Chamber of Deputies' speaker to Taiwan, and the welcome she received far exceeded her expectations. She said one of the deepest impressions so far was a visit to the National Center for Traditional Arts. The Czech Republic and Ukraine are separated by less than 400 kilometers, which is about the distance between Taipei and Kaohsiung. Adamova said her country is standing with Ukraine and also guarantees Taiwan that it will be by its side no matter the circumstance.

Adamova also said the two countries' stories are interwoven and their responsibility is to develop democracy and freedom. The members of her delegation come from across the political spectrum and there are representatives from government and schools. Legislative President You Si-kun said Adamova's visit symbolizes the blooming and deepening of the bilateral friendship.
