Lin Yi-hua Assumes Vice Mayor Post

Taipei City Deputy Mayor Lin Yi-hua created controversy on the first day of her new post, as she resigned as a legislator just one day earlier, which made a by-election impossible. One civic group, meanwhile, is demanding that Lin give back her salary as a legislator.

Lin Yi-hua, Taipei City Deputy Mayor: “When I first accepted (the deputy mayor post), I told Chiang Wan-an I wouldn't be able to join the team until February. As for the salary issue, I don't think it is an issue. Everyone knows the Legislative Yuan is governed by its own regulations, and we all have to abide by them. I didn't collect any more than I was due.”

Lin says she was heavily involved with the tobacco hazards prevention and climate change response bills and the general budget review also had to be completed before she felt like she could leave. In response to calls that she should give back her salary, Lin says she followed the regulation and did not take a cent that doesn't belong to her.
