Former Japanese State Minister of Defense Yasuhide Nakayama recently arrived in Taiwan for a visit. He said Taiwan and Japan are brothers and he supports Japan helping to defend Taiwan against China. He also said there is a possibility that Japan will recognize Taiwan as an independent country in the future.

Former Japanese State Minister of Defense Yasuhide Nakayama, who frequently says Taiwan and Japan are a family, recently arrived in Taiwan for a visit and to launch a new book. He said democratic countries should help to defend Taiwan against a Chinese invasion, and anything that affects Taiwan also affects Japan. Nakayama also said it's possible that Japan will recognize Taiwan as an independent country in the future.
Yasuhide Nakayama, Former Japanese State Minister of Defense: “I think that if Taiwan is capable of continuing to maintain its democratic and free system, there will come a day when Japan will recognize it as a country. I believe this is something that is extremely possible.”
Meanwhile, the U.S. Congress unveiled the National Defense Authorization Act for 2023 which authorizes US$10 billion in military aid to Taiwan, which may indirectly show that the period before 2027 is an optimal time for China to attack Taiwan. The U.S. is appealing to allies to join it against China. The defense ministers of the U.S., UK, and Australia met on Dec. 7 to discuss how to step up security cooperation. To sustain peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific, the U.S. will substantially increase its military aid to Australia. This is seen as an important indicator of the U.S.' determination to oppose China.
Lloyd Austin, US Secretary of Defense: “Over the past 15 months, we've made great progress toward identifying a pathway for Australia to acquire conventionally-armed and nuclear-powered submarines. Today, on behalf of President Biden, I want to reaffirm the U.S. commitment to ensuring that Australia acquires this capability at the earliest possible date.”
During a meeting in Rome, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman and Italian foreign affairs officials expressed their opposition to unilateral actions that change the status quo of the Taiwan Strait. They also expressed their support for Ukraine against the Russian invasion.

多次在國際場合提到台日關係是一家人,立場相當友台的中山泰秀,疫情緩和終於來台訪問,並且出版新書,認為面對中國侵略,民主國家都應該防衛台灣,台灣有事就是日本有事,而日本將來承認台灣是一個國家是有可能的。

日本近來多次關注台海和平,美國也傳出將在國會國防授權法案中授權軍援台灣100億美元,可能間接認定2027年前為中共攻台高危險期。美國拉盟友抗中,美國、英國及澳洲3國的防長昨(7)日舉行會議,討論如何加強安全合作,確保印太地區的和平穩定,美國將大幅增加在澳大利亞的軍事支援,被視為抗中的重要指標。
美國國防部長奧斯汀表示:「我們在為澳洲尋找、獲得常規武裝和核動力潛艇的途徑方面,取得了巨大進展,今日我代表拜登總統重申美國,承諾確保澳洲儘早獲得這種能力。」
美國副國務卿雪蔓也與義大利外交高階官員在羅馬會晤,雙方在會中表達反對片面改變台海現狀的行徑,也強調在俄羅斯殘酷攻擊烏克蘭人民與建設之際,會共同支持烏國。
