NTU Revokes Lin Chih-chien's Master's Degree 認定抄襲! 台大撤銷學位 林智堅:很難接受

National Taiwan University has revoked DPP Taoyuan City mayor candidate Lin Chih-chien's master's degree after a review committee determined that his thesis was plagiarized.

On the 9th, a special NTU review committee announced its findings: that Democratic Progressive Party Taoyuan City mayor candidate Lin Chih-chien had, in fact, plagiarized his thesis.

Su Hung-dah, Dean, College of Social Sciences, NTU: “In reality, Lin (Chih-chien)'s thesis was barely reviewed or looked at. From subject, analytical structure, table of contents, tables and diagrams, and the Chinese synopsis to the first section, the third section, the fourth section, the conclusion, and the first paragraph of the preface, (Yu Cheng-huang) and Lin's theses are virtually identical. This is plagiarism, plain and simple.”

NTU says entire sections of Lin's thesis were virtually identical to that of fellow student Yu Cheng-huang, and Lin violated the school's academic ethics requirements. Given the high level of plagiarism, in this case, NTU's Office of Academic Affairs approved the committee's recommendation to revoke Lin's degree.

Ding Shih-torng, Dean, Academic Affairs, NTU: “After a great deal of examination and discussion, we concluded that (Yu Cheng-huang) did not plagiarize his thesis and (Lin Chih-chen) plagiarized Yu Cheng-huang's thesis. In accordance with our regulations governing violations of academic ethics in degree theses, Lin Chih-chien's master's thesis will be revoked.”

NTU received a number of tips about Lin plagiarizing his master's thesis after his other thesis plagiarism scandal at Chung Hua University erupted. NTU says it will strengthen guidance and education on academic ethics in the future. It remains to be seen whether this development will have any effect on Lin's campaign.

台大校長管中閔表示：「台大一定堅持學術倫理與誠信的標準，維護近百年的學術名譽倫理。」

再次強調，學校會堅守學術倫理標準，台大校長管中閔，希望各界尊重台大專業判斷。

管中閔表示：「社會大眾要信任台大處理學術事務的能力，也尊重台大的專業判斷。」

民進黨桃園市長參選人林智堅，被指控碩士論文涉及抄襲，台大組成審定委員會審議，9日上午公布結果，林智堅涉嫌抄襲。

台大社科院長蘇宏達說明：「林生的論文，實際上根本幾乎沒有處理過，分析所謂的槓桿者效應。余生和林生的論文，研究對象、分析架構、目錄結構、圖表圖示、中文摘要、第一章、第三章、第四章、結論至前言第一節，都有高度的文字的相似性，構成抄襲。」

校方說明，林智堅和余正煌的論文，從摘要到內文和整體架構，存在高度重疊性，並不符合學術倫理要求，在審酌當事人的書面和現場說明，並釐清事實、充分討論後，決議余正煌沒有抄襲，而是林智堅抄襲，而且情節嚴重，教務處依據審定會建議，撤銷林智堅的碩士學位。

台大教務長丁詩同表示：「經過充分的分析與討論，最後議決余生並無抄襲，而是林生抄襲余生的碩士論文，且根據本校的博碩士學位論文違反學術倫理（規範），核定撤銷林生的碩士論文。」

在林智堅爆發論文抄襲爭議後，台大校方多次接獲檢舉，並組成審定委員會，最新結果出爐，未來校方會強化學術倫理的宣導和教育，避免再次發生類似事件。至於論文案風波，後續會對選戰產生什麼影響，還有待時間觀察。
