A COVID patient in her 20s died despite the fact that she was fully-vaccinated and had no chronic illness. Experts say while it is a rare case, it also serves as a reminder that the Omnicron variant should not be regarded as a common cold so people should not let down their guards. Those who have difficulties breathing, a rapid heartbeat, or suspicious symptoms should seek medical attention immediately.
A young woman in her 20s who had no history of chronic diseases and who received three vaccine doses died quickly after being diagnosed with COVID-19. A physician said this case showed some atypical symptoms of the Omicron subtype variant, such as continuous diarrhea, which was less common in the past. Both the public and doctors should be vigilant.
Chiang Kuan-yu, Physician: “There has been a recent increase in cases of diarrhea. Some people still need to be vigilant. This is an infection of a subtype of COVID. I don't know which subtype it is, but we may also detect these sequences again.”
The doctor revealed this case is extremely rare. The public should not panic too much. However, Omicron should also be viewed with caution. Although it is relatively mild compared to the original Wuhan strain and the later Delta strain, it "can't be regarded as a common cold." It is recommended that people who are isolating at home caring for mild infections should monitor their blood oxygen and pay attention to whether there are "precursor symptoms of serious illnesses."
Lin Wei-wen, Cardiologist: “Symptoms such as unstable blood pressure, dehydration, high fever, chest tightness, chest pain, shortness of breath, or less urination. Be especially careful when your blood pressure is unstable.”
Lee Ping-ying, Infectious Disease Physician: “The most serious sign of the new coronavirus is cardiopulmonary insufficiency, which causes shortness of breath. These symptoms may sometimes be thought of as fatigue, which may be taken lightly.”
The infectious disease doctor reminds people that wheezing or chest tightness, pale face, or heart palpitations when walking may be a sign of heart and lung failure. In addition, if you have to breathe hard to get air and have a rapid heartbeat but no fever, these symptoms may also lead to shock. Anyone with similar symptoms should seek medical attention immediately.
