The government said those who booked their vaccination appointment from July 13-15 will receive test messages in coming days and can be inolucated on the 16 at the earliest. Citizens are also encouraged to make a vaccination appointment at brick-and-mortar pharmacies as some experienced 30-minute delay when using the online registration system.
People who wish to make a vaccination reservation can now use their mobile phone and book an appointment using this APP. However, the system experienced some glitches and the process took longer than expected. The system finally responded after half an hour. More than 2.84 million people in Taiwan aged 50 and older and those aged 18 and older in the 9th priority group had expressed their desire to get vaccinated against COVID-19 by 5 p.m. on July 12 using the new online vaccination preferences registration and reservation system.
Starting July 13, people who are eligible for the vaccination will be notified via text messages. They can book an appointment online between the 13th and the 15th, and receive the jab on the 16th at the earliest.
Citizen:”I received the text message. I can book an appointment once I got the text message. (Do you think it's safer to be inoculated as soon as possible?) Of course.”
Citizen:”I thought I could register first. I might be able to get vaccinated if I'm lucky. I would feel safer that way.”
Pharmacists across the country have been called by the government to assist the general public in the vaccination reservation process. People have come to the pharmacy that they are most familiar with and requested help. However, the online system experienced glitches during the process possibly due to high traffic volume or the incongruences in the different versions of the system.
Huang Yen-ju, Spokesperson, TPIP:”The government called on the pharmacies which are still selling face masks under the real-name registration system. There are more than 4,000 such pharmacies. 80 percent of them are willing to assist the general public in the new vaccination preferences registration and reservation process.”
Pharmacists kept calling 1922 for trouble shooting, hoping to get through the registration process as soon as possible. They also help the public to use their own mobile phones and try to make a reservation via the APP. According to the statistics, more than 80,000 people have reserved the AZ vaccine while 60 percent have reserved the Moderna vaccine in the first round of reservation. The rest opted for either.
