Chinese Taipei played its second game in Group B of the World Baseball Softball Confederation Premier12 tournament on Nov. 6. The opponent was powerhouse Venezuela. Pitcher Chang Yi kept Venezuela scoreless over seven innings and notched six strikeouts. In the seventh inning, Chinese Taipei finally scored. It ended up winning the game 3 to 0, and Taiwan advances to Premier12 super round in Tokyo.

After throwing 12 pitches, closer Chen Hung-wen finally struck out Venezuela's last batter, securing Chinese Taipei's second consecutive win in the World Baseball Softball Confederation Premier12 tournament. With these two wins, Chinese Taipei has qualified for the super round alongside Japan.

This Group B game was played at Taichung Intercontinental Baseball Stadium, and matched Chinese Taipei against Venezuela. The game was scoreless after six innings. In the top of the seventh, Chinese Taipei launched an offensive after two batters went out. After Lin Che-hsuan, who was eighth in the batting order, reached first on a walk, pinch hitter Chu Yu-hsien doubled down the left field line.
The base runner takes off on this base hit. Lin Che-hsuan rounds second base, rounds third base, and heads for home in a tremendous effort to score in the top of the seventh. He is safe, safe!
Venezuela's left fielder spent some time scrambling after the ball, allowing Lin to reach home base and score. Chu, whose daughter was born earlier in the day, continued on a hot streak, after winning the 2019 Chinese Professional Baseball League MVP award and leading the league in home runs and base hits. In his first appearance in the tournament, he broke the deadlock with a runner on first. The next batter was Wang Wei-chen, who doubled through the left side.

In the top of the seventh, Chinese Taipei hit two consecutive base hits, which resulted in two points and a 2 to 0 lead. In the top of the ninth, leadoff hitter Hu Chin-lung singled through the right side to get on base, and then stole second base. Venezuelan pitcher Cristian Alvarado then allowed the next two batters to fly out.

Hu Chin-lung scored Chinese Taipei's third point. In the bottom of the ninth, closer Chen Hung-wen shut out Venezuela, and Chinese Taipei walked away with a 3 to 0 victory over Venezuela, its second win in the first round. Starting pitcher Chang Yi, who plays professionally in Japan, pitched 102 balls over seven innings, giving up only four hits. He also notched six strikeouts.
A strike! That was a 149 kilometer fastball to end this crisis.
Chang's excellent performance helped Chinese Taipei to secure the win. Japan also won its game against Puerto Rico, which means Chinese Taipei and Japan have advanced to the super round. The super round will be played next week in Tokyo Dome.
