After the Taipei High Administrative Court ruled that the ministry of health must offer compensation to the girl, referred to by the pseudonym, "Bella," who experienced pain in her body and was diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis about a week after receiving a second dose of the HPV vaccine, at least 8 other victims have stepped out with similar reactions. Wearing a white hat with a black face mask, this is Penny's mother. Her daughter, Penny, who is in her first year of junior high school received the second dose of the Human papillomavirus or HPV vaccine in May. However, following the vaccine, she experienced pain in her joints. Initially, everyone thought it was probably due to sports injuries or growth pains, but in the end it was diagnosed as juvenile idiopathic arthritis, and she has to be on medication for the rest of her life.
Even the doctors said that it could be from too much exercise or it is growth pains, and told me not to worry. But as a parent, can you imagine, if your kid cannot walk, how can one not be worried?
Celine also experienced pains following her HPV vaccine shot. Her mother said that her daughter was active in sports and had no history of related illnesses, but now she has to take up to nine steroid pills to be able to relieve the pain.
Originally she was an athlete in running and long jump, and she had represented her school to participate in contests whereby she received favorable results. Now her condition is starkly different. As parents, we find that hard to accept.
This April, the Taipei High Administrative Court ruled that the Ministry of Health must compensate a teenage girl over an adverse reaction after receiving doses of the HPV vaccine. Since then, more and more similar cases surfaced into the light. Currently, there are a total of eight cases.Women's groups and legislators are now calling on the government to deal with this issue seriously, while the vaccine notices issued by the Department of Health also contained information on the adverse side effects of the vaccine.
Even if there are very safe vaccines, there will still be some adverse side effects. The government needs to establish relevant relief systems.
I promise I will examine the user manual as soon as possible and make sure that it has the correct information disclosure.
