Typhoon Lekima is assaulting Taiwan. Northern Taiwan was hit first, but the typhoon started moving north in the early hours of the morning. In the morning, Keelung got intermittent rain and wind. One person said it wasn't as fierce as he thought it would be and some stores decided early in the morning to open for the day.
Coast Guard personnel drive around Keelung's Chaojing Park and urge people to evacuate the coastal area.
We are asking tourists who are watching the waves or getting in the water to leave. There were many people watching the waves this morning.
Every few seconds, someone stops to take a picture. Along the coast, many people are picnicking while watching the waves. Area residents say the storm has not been as bad as expected.
We got a (typhoon holiday), but we still need to make a living.
With the weather better than expected, many stores decided to open for business. This produce vendor went to Taipei's Binjiang Market at 1:30 a.m. to get his daily supply. He was followed by many housewives later in the morning.
(What was it like in Taipei at 1:30?) It was very quiet. There was nothing out of the ordinary.
It was raining a little. A lot. Actually, it wasn't really much.
The flooding and toppled trees Typhoon Lekima caused in Keelung's Qidu after making landfall were quickly remedied. With the storm weakening and veering north, there was intermittent rain and wind in Keelung throughout the morning but nothing major.
