If you cook with tanked gas, beware! Three batches of gas tanks sold by TPA Gas were found with gas leaking problems. It is suspected that the gas tanks have been sold to Yilan County and New Taipei City. Based on estimation, around 4,000 tanks have been sold to the Xizhi and Shuangxi District. The fire department has held a meeting with local gas tank vendors, asking them to replace the faulty products. It is also advised to perform checks on your tanks at home.
Many local food vendors cook with gas tanks. And a large number of the tanks are bought form TPA Gas, a local wholesaler. The Bureau of Standards, Metrology Inspection recently found that three batches of gas tanks sold by TPA leaks gas even after tightening the valves. The bureau has asked the company to recall the faulty tanks. So far, it is found that the gas tanks have been sold to Yilan County and New Taipei City.
A faulty gas tank doesn't just affect one household; it could potentially affect everyone in the building.
The gas tanks used by street venders all have serial numbers that have a close match with the faulty batch of gas tanks. However, New Taipei City fire department said that only the gas tanks with a TPA Gas sticker on the front, its safety pin manufactured between September and November 2017, its tank also made in that period, with the serial number of V2S-PA, are the one with gas leakage problems. So far, the faulty gas tanks have found their ways into New Taipei's Xizhi and Shuangxi Districts.
Some of the gas tanks have parts that don't exactly fit, therefore it might lead to gas leakage. Of course, in this case, if the valve is completely tightened, there still would still be no leakage. The problem lies where, when the gas tank is in operation, the valve needs to be open, and even though when the gas fire is turned off, there are still gas leaking out of the tank.
New Taipei City Fire Department said that it is not enough to only inform the public through media, local food vendors and residents need to check on their gas tanks and report any issue to the fire departments as soon as possible to facilitate the recall process.
