Yesterday was Japan's newest public holiday called Mountain Day which is all about celebrating the country's ancient natural beauties. Also, starting this Saturday, Japan will be celebrating the annual Bon Festival. Large crowds can already be seen at train stations and on highways trying to get home for the festival. And since the temperature is expected to be over 39°C these couple of days, Japan Meteorological Agency reminds people to beware of heatstroke. Young students are playing by the stream because the high temperatures in Japan in the past few days have been insufferable. ==OSAKA RESIDENT== It's so hot. I think I'm going to melt. I hope that doesn't happen. ==HAMAMATSU RESIDENT== My head is so hot it's like a piece of hot iron. ==SAGA RESIDENT== I feel like I'm getting suffocated by the heat. ==SAGA RESIDENT== I can't even breathe in this heat. Traditionally, the Japanese return to their hometown and celebrate the Bon Festival from August 13 to 16. This year a new public holiday, Mountain Day, was added on August 11, so crowds can already be seen at train stations and on highways. Most trains and flights are fully booked, and highways are congested with heavy traffic. The Japan Meteorological Agency estimated that the temperatures will continue to climb. High temperatures over 39°C can be expected, and the Agency advises people to drink more water and avoid exposure to the sun to prevent heatstroke.
