Rail tickets to eastern Taiwan are hard to buy, especially during holidays. Passengers complain about this issue. Minister of Transportation and Communications Ho Chen Tan says the ticket system will be improved by mid-September. From June 1, the Taiwan Railway Administration will enforce a new policy of online booking which requires the buyer to input a valid ID number and personal name for the transaction. The first train requiring names to buy tickets starts from Taipei to Taitung on June 9th, the TRA reminds passengers that if they travel without their IDs, their tickets will be invalid.
