The renovation of the no. 3 men's dormitory of the National Chung Hsing University was completed, and the basement has been turned into a communal kitchen, which is popular among students.
Some are frying eggs, some are bringing the dishes to the table. This is not a family kitchen, but the basement of a men's dormitory of National Chung Hsing University. The university has recently modified the space into a fully equipped kitchen, complete with furniture such as tables and chairs. The living-room like environment makes many student feel like home.
As students, we don't have time to cook here every day. But when I want to eat something I like, or something healthier, I can always prepare my own produce and cook my own food.
I think I'll put some Spanish food, some traditional food here, only, maybe once per week, at least.
Foreign students believe that the space helps solve their specific requirements for food, it also helps promote exchanges with local Taiwanese students. The university said that healthy diets have become increasingly popular in recent years. Students with special dietary needs such as vegetarians and Muslims have also been asking for their own kitchen. After evaluating the situation, the university has decided to open up the communal kitchen.
Many students prefer to buy their own produce and to cook their own food in order to make dishes that fits their own taste and needs. Therefore, we modified the basement in our Lichi dorm as an experiment (for communal kitchens).
The communal kitchen has received favorable responses from the students. However, use of fire is still banned due to safety concerns. Currently, the kitchen only provide electrical cooking equipment. In the future, the university plans to open up communal kitchens in women's dorms as well.
