When people seek out either vaccination or treatment, they often rely on healthcare professionals, who, ironically, often become victims of hospital violence themselves. 15 verbal abuse cases have been reported so far this year at National Taiwan University Hospital Yunlin Branch and 300 security cameras have been installed to protect the safety of staff and patients.

Last month, a man sought medical treatment at National Taiwan University Hospital Yunlin Branch. He tried to register for a nighttime appointment, but the slots were already filled and he couldn't get an appointment. The man then began raging at hospital staff. Violent behavior inside hospitals is becoming more and more common.

What they fear most is unreasonable demands by patients when there is nothing wrong with them. The most serious type of incident is of course physical violence, and we don't want to see that occur. Verbal abuse also occurs, between January and September 2018, there were 15 cases of verbal abuse.

The hospital has 200 security cameras installed throughout the facilities to protect the safety of medical personnel and patients. The majority are traditional analog cameras. Recently, a local communications company donated 300 professional-grade network security cameras supporting over million pixels to the hospital.

We have a special program for elementary school campuses, but this is the first time we've made a donation to a hospital. We donated 300 cameras with a total value of NT$ 2.5 million.

The hospital says it has established a direct connection to the local police and can contact them for immediate assistance once a violent incident occurs. It says the security cameras can help to clarify facts lest any controversies arise. It also hopes these cameras can help to provide a safe environment for the hospital's 1,700 medical personnel and 60,000 monthly patients.
