The Jakarta Palembang Asian Games will open this weekend on Aug. 18. The largest group of the Chinese Taipei team ever, boarded a chartered flight at 7 a.m. on Aug. 15. The group included weightlifter Kuo Hsin-chun and badminton player Tai Tzu-ying, who were treated to business class seats..

Close to 300 Chinese Taipei athletes pose for a group photo before boarding their flight. Weightlifter Kuo Hsin-chun, who has her sights set on gold, was very excited about her first charter flight.

As I previously said, it's like we are an entire army headed off to war.

The Airbus A350-900 aircraft has a capacity of 314, including 32 business class seats. Chinese Taipei is sending 588 athletes to the Jakarta Palembang Asian Games, its largest contingent ever. Two hundred and ninety athletes and training staff competing in 17 sports flew on the charter flight. The group also includes team chefs so the athletes can dine on Taiwanese cuisine and food they are used to while in Indonesia.

When you have access to food you're used to and don't have to worry about what you're eating, you can focus on performance and competition.

Athletes competing in events being held far from the athletes village will stay in service apartments so they can focus on competition. Chinese Taipei hopes to at least match its record of 10 gold medals from the last Asian Games in Incheon.
