Contact Lenses Tend to Stick to Corneas in Hot Weather|淚液熱到乾.. 隱形眼鏡恐黏住角膜

In this kind of scorching weather, if you wear contacts, beware! Contact lenses tend to stick on corneas in hot weather, and forceful removal could lead to damage to the cornea.

Upon close inspection, there are signs of scratching and pieces of contact lenses visible on the cornea. Ms. Chen often wears cosmetic contact lenses all day long, however, she sustained injury to her cornea when she tried to forcefully remove the lenses that are stuck.

When I tried to remove the contact lenses, I found the process very difficult. After I forcefully removed them, my eyes felt very painful.

Due to the nature of her sales work, Ms. Chen often has to work long hours in the sun. A recent study conducted by doctors from Taiwan and Japan shows that once the temperature of a contact lens wearer's tears exceeds 36 degrees Celsius, the tears will evaporate within one hour, causing the lenses to stick onto the corneas.

Once the tears are evaporated, the contact lenses will be stuck on the corneas, which is called the cornea suction effect.

After closely examining the effect of different contact lenses, the doctors found that the different colors of contact lenses lead to different rates of evaporation. Lenses that are red, blue, and purple lead to the quickest evaporation of tears, at almost twice as fast as lenses of other colors. The doctors also found that subpar quality lenses could even leave residual substances on the cornea, and some could even cause ulcers. The doctors advise consumers to be vigilant of high temperatures and to avoid lenses made by unknown manufacturers.
