A very aspirational story, and again on people, who share the love for Taiwan. Two sixty-year old friends had planned to sail around Taiwan since they were young. The pair finally constructed a wooden sailboat and took off from a harbor in New Taipei's Tamsui District. Most recently, they have sailed around the dangerous Cape Eluanbi and are finally approaching their destination.
The wind rises, and Chang Tzung-Hui and Chen Ming-Chung immediately prepares their wooden sailboat docked at SanHeHarbor in Taimali Township, Taitung County, to push it off to sea at the best angle. They plan to take advantage of the wind to finish the last segment of their dream of sailing around Taiwan. Their plan to is rely only on wind power to complete the sail.
We have no support from anyone else, we can only rely on ourselves.
The pair has been sailing for 17 days. They took off from a harbor in New Taipei City's Tamsui District on June 18, and have been sailing for over a month in the Taiwan Strait. They had to stop a number of times due to bad weather, but they persisted for their dream. Last weekend, they spent two days to sail around the highly dangerous Cape Eluanbi and have entered the waters near Taitung.
The situation on the sea changes very quickly. When the sea is tranquil, it's very adorable, very therapeutic. It's very comfortable to sail. On the other hand, there are times when the sea gets quite violent as well.
The two sailors are both over 60 years old, and are both sailing enthusiasts. Chen said that Taiwan looks completely different from the sea than it does from land. He also said that despite being an island, Taiwan hasn't promoted sailing to the public. He hopes their latest sail will help boost the popularity of sailing.
