The official website of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) was suspected to have been under attack. Several sensitive sentences in simplified Chinese appeared on the web page.

Several sentences appear on the webpage of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP). The sentences expressed support from alleged Chinese netizens for President Tsai Ing-wen, and are written in simplified Chinese. Several mocking portrait photos in the likeness of key presidential office staff members, such as Secretary General Chen Chu, were also added to the front page. After realizing their official website is seemingly under attack from Chinese hackers, the party's cybersecurity department has begun their investigation on the case.

(The police) is currently investigating the situation. We'd like to express regret. I think the people in Taiwan can see that the internet is filled with smearing, bullying and fake news, and the spreading of hate speech.

The police has begun investigating the case. In a recent case, President Tsai Ing-wen Facebook page was also filled with large number of comments. The police said that the Criminal Investigation Bureau and the National Security Bureau will also follow up the situation once the case is established.

It is possible that (the attack) is generated from computer bots from outside Taiwan. We will invite experts from the cybersecurity department and let them find the right angle to approach the matter. I think the experts would have a better idea on finding the trace.

The hackers have broadcasted that they would attack the opposition Kuomintang (KMT) next. KMT officials said, in response, that all expressions that do not hinder others' right are considered free speech, and the KMT will respect that. On the other hand, the KMT said that no one should resort to illegal means to express themselves and the party has called on the government to enhance cybersecurity measures.
