Hon Hai Group's subsidiary, Foxconn is opening a new factory in the U.S. state Wisconsin. The groundbreaking ceremony was held early on the morning of June 29, Taiwan time. U.S. President Donald Trump attended the ceremony and made a speech, praising Hon Hai Chair Terry Gou, and calling him, his friend.

Using golden shovels, Hon Hai Chair Terry Gou and U.S. President Donald Trump break ground on Foxconn's new Wisconsin plant. Speaker of the House of Representatives Paul Ryan was also there. Gou and Trump shook hands and spoke during the ceremony, and Trump called Gou his "friend" during his speech.

Terry's a friend of mine, and I recommended Wisconsin in this case. I know that Terry's investing US$10 billion in the state. $10 billion! Incredible! So even at this early stage, the economic benefits of this new plant are being felt in 60 of Wisconsin's 72 counties. Already!

Trump toured the 1.8 square-kilometer site and said the plant would be one of the largest in the world. He also hailed it as the "Eighth Wonder of the World" and proclaimed it would create over 13,000 jobs and contribute greatly to his America First policy.

And I'm pleased to report that Foxconn intends to build 100 percent of the factory with beautiful American concrete and beautiful American steel made right here. So, our steel industry, our aluminum industry, our solar panel industry, it's all coming back.

At the same time, the plant has been criticized by local officials. A Democrat Wisconsin assemblyman has said the plant will destroy the local ecosystem and will cost taxpayers US$4.5 billion. The sum is mostly state-funded tax credits Wisconsin granted Foxconn over a 15-year period.
