Starting from Today, Taiwanese tourists will be able to pass through South Korea's customs via an automatic check-in procedure without going through the long queue for custom officers. The Ministry of the Interior said that the latest development further help promote tourism for both sides.
Visiting Taiwan, South Korean students first visit local pastry shops to buy the famous pineapple cakes and then visit the Taipei 101, a renowned local landmark. Many were quite impressed by Taiwan already, even before their four day trip is over.
Taiwan is good and clean and price is so cheap that we choose Taiwan.
It's quite scary looking from this angle.
Many from South Korea like Taiwan for the variety of affordable food. A South Korean YouTuber made short films to present many types of local treats, including ginger ducks and beef soup. The video has attracted more than 500,000 views and led to many online discussions. According to official statistics, 1.05 million tourists from South Korea visited Taiwan in 2017, this marks an almost 20 percent growth compared to 2016. On the other hand, close to 890,000 Taiwanese tourists visited South Korea in 2017.
We tend to visit local historical sites (when we travel to South Korea), sample many local snacks and shop in the Myeong-dong shopping area.
The increasing tourism exchange between Taiwan and South Korea will get a further boost after the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) by the Taoyuan International Airport and its counterpart in South Korea. In the future, tourists from Taiwan and South Korea can pass through the customs with automatic check-in. The tourists from both countries would no longer have to wait in line for custom officers.
The signing of the MOU marks an important milestone between our collaboration with South Korea. The two countries work together in a number of realms, including in education, economy, and cultural sectors. The young people of Taiwan and South Korea are quite fond of the popular culture from each others' country.
As the local pop culture of Taiwan and South Korea help boost local tourism, the new MOU would further boost the tourism exchange. The government hopes that the total number of tourists from both sides would exceed 2 million this year.
