Taoyuan Ranks First in Urban Migration Growth|桃園市人口淨遷入 連6年居全台之冠

For the sixth straight year, including the people relocating there, Taoyuan is the top municipality in Taiwan for population growth. In the past five-plus years, Taoyuan's population has grown by 120,000 people. equivalent to the total population of New Taipei City's Linkou District. One real estate agent says the continual upgrade of infrastructure and more affordable housing, are the main reasons Taoyuan is attracting new residents.


Transportation is very convenient in Taoyuan, with Taiwan Railways trains, high-speed rail trains, and the airport MRT. According to statistics, Taoyuan's urban migration population growth has been tops in Taiwan for six years, increasing by 120,000 people in the last five-plus years. New Taipei City's Linkou District has around this many residents.

There was population growth even before the change. At the peak, we were seeing over 4,000 new residents every month. In the last year or two, the population has being increasing over 3,000 every month.

Apart from convenient transportation, people also say Taoyuan is a good place to live because of lower cost of living and lower housing prices.

Housing prices are lower. For NT$10 million, you can buy a tiny unit in New Taipei or a huge unit in Taoyuan. You can even buy a townhouse.

Of new residents that moved to Taoyuan between January and May this year, 2,405 and 4,410, respectively, moved from Taipei and New Taipei. In addition, 2,215 new residents moved from places other than the six special municipalities. One realtor says Taoyuan's lower housing prices and proximity to Greater Taipei and Taoyuan International Airport make it an attractive place to live.

Taoyuan's house price to income ratio is 8.14, which ranks fifth among the six special municipalities. It is only higher than Tainan by a little. Even Hsinchu County and Changhua County have higher ratios than Taoyuan.

The realtor says the steady growth of Taoyuan's industrial sector along with under-development projects like Taoyuan Aerotropolis, Asia Silicon Valley and the MRT Green Line are all reasons why it is attracting new residents.
