The southwest monsoon has brought torrential rain to Tainan. For the past three days, there has been at least one incident of a road or underpass collapsing each day, causing four injuries.

Workers from Tainan's Public Works Bureau sealed off Changrong Road on the morning of July 21. The road surface had collapsed, possibly due to several consecutive days of heavy rain, and the workers sought to pinpoint the reason.

Tainan has suffered from several days of torrential rain brought by the southwest monsoon. On June 19, a Linsen Road underpass collapsed, injuring three motorists. On June 20, Jianping Road also suffered a collapse, injuring one. On June 21, the intersection of Dongning Road and Changrong Road sank into the ground. Residents subsequently expressed fears over the quality of roads in their city.

Of course this worries and scares you.

All these potholes will affect shock absorbers.

The city's Public Works Bureau says its initial assessment shows the culprit for the road collapses was the heavy rain, which eroded the roads. It added there is no relation to the quality of the roads. It will seek to determine the cause.

Heavy rain causes the most damage to road surfaces. I'm sure you all can imagine what the situation is like when the rain is constantly coming down at a fast rate and hitting the asphalt concrete road surface. In the end, holes will appear. Potholes have appeared not only on our Mingxing Road, but also on other roads in the city.

The bureau added the underpass collapsed because wastewater drainage pipes underneath it were leaking and eroding the road surface. It has already grouted the underpass. However, the rain is affecting the speed of the repair work, and the underpass won't be reopened until the afternoon of June 22.
