Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je recently ordered the Taipei City Department of Government Ethics to check the accounts of Taipei Agricultural Products Marketing Corp. This resulted in Ko been accused of abusing his power. Pro-independence groups even went to the Taipei District Prosecutors Office to accuse Ko of interfering with freedom. In regards to this, Ko said he is just doing what he is supposed to do.
Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je advocates "big citizen, small government" at a Taiwan Civic Participation Association conference. Ko is facing accusations of abuse of power after asking the Taipei City Department of Government Ethics to audit Taipei Agricultural Products Marketing Corp. Pan-green groups and former Shilin prosecutor Tseng Chin-yuan have also filed a freedom interference complaint against Ko with the Taipei District Prosecutors Office.
Is [Tseng Chin-yuan] running for office or something? Oh, no wonder. This is nothing. I have to do what I have to do.
Ko has not commented on this, but he recently said he does not have legal knowledge of the Company Act. This led to further criticism from Democratic Progressive Party Taipei City mayor candidate Pasuya Yao, who said Ko has many professionals on his team and he is trying to sweep his wrongdoing under the rug.
Mayor Ko has been mayor for almost four years already. He has so many professionals on his team, so for him to say this now is really dangerous. It's like he thinks these wrongdoings has nothing to do with him.
Yao says Ko's audit directive could have many legal implications beyond the Company Act and Ko needs to brush up on his legal knowledge. Elsewhere, Kuomintang Taipei City mayor candidate Ting Shou-chung ran into Ko's parents at an event on the 15th and helped Ko's mother up some stairs.
