Hualien County's Yuli Township designed a special Formosan black bear mascot named "Yuli Xiongzan" to promote tourism. Bears have been placed at the train station and other public places. There is even a rice paddy with a giant bear motif in the middle of it, attracting many tourists.

A Formosan black bear carrying a book bag can be found in a rice paddy in Yuli Township's Yuancheng Borough. Local residents are very proud of the design and say the field is already a local landmark.

It's cute and unique to our community. (Why?) Because it's a black bear. There's a newly designed bear every year, so tourists have something new to see every year.

Drone enthusiasts have been traveling to Yuli from all over Taiwan to capture the motif.

Aerial photos can capture not only mountains and waterways, but also rice paddies and how they intersect with ridges. It's very pretty.

The Formosan black bear was chosen as Yuli's mascot in 2015. The black rice was developed by the Hualien District Agricultural Research Extension Station and began sprouting at the beginning of the year.

Many black bears are found in the mountains around Yuli. That's why we use the Formosan black bear as our motif and mascot for promoting Yuli. The field also promotes Yuli's agricultural sector.

The Yuli Township Office has also placed Yuli bears holding local specialties like daylilies and noodles at the train station and other public venues to promote tourism.
