The results of this year's college individual application admissions have been announced. The acceptance rate was nearly 60 percent. However, there were also 10,400 unfilled vacancies, meaning schools fail to enroll enough students, with seven of them reporting a vacancy rate of over 50 percent.

Affiliated Senior High School of National Taiwan Normal University senior Huang Yu-wei speaks about his future plans. He got into his first choice during this year's individual application admissions, which was National Taiwan University's Department of International Business. He was also accepted by the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

The language of instruction is English in Hong Kong, and the program is also more international. It has a higher proportion of international students. Hong Kong's financial sector is much more flourishing than Taiwan's, so it would be better to study business in Hong Kong.

Meanwhile, Chen Tai-rong was accepted by National Tsinghua University's Department of Electrical Engineering, National Chiao Tung University's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and NTU's Department of Physics, as well as Zhejiang University's College of Computer Science and Technology.

If I take the practical road, I would choose NTHU's Department of Electrical Engineering. However, Zhejiang University's College of Computer Science and Technology ranks second in Asia and the tuition is also cheaper compared to Taiwan, so I may end up choosing Zhejiang University.

The results of the 2018 college individual application admissions were announced on May 17. This year, there were 77,000 applicants, and 46,000 were admitted for an admissions rate of 59.92 percent, an increase of 0.3 percent compared to last year and a new record high. In the past, schools focusing on arts or medicine often had zero vacancies. This year, however, all 154 schools, including the best ones, had vacancies. Meanwhile, there were 259 perfect General Scholastic Ability Test scores, an increase of 141 compared to last year. However, 23 of the students with perfect scores failed to get into the schools of their choice.

Twelve students with perfect scores applied through the Stars Program and have been admitted to medical schools.

College Admissions Committee statistics show there were 10,489 vacancies after admissions, a decrease of 1,000 compared to last year. These vacancies, as well as those vacancies "given up" by admitted students, will be filled in July during another round of admissions.
