Living Wall Promoting Flora Expo Is Dead|台中花博還沒開幕 植生花牆枯死

The living wall in front of Taichung's Fengyuan Train Station is a live advertisement for the upcoming Flora Expo. But the plants on the wall are all dead. Taichung's Tourism Bureau says Grandcity Hotel is in charge of the wall. The hotel has promised to replant it.


Whatever plants there are on the living wall are dead. On other parts of the wall, flowerpots stand empty. Only weeds remain. The wall was placed in front of Taichung's Fengyuan Tran Station as a live advertisement for the upcoming Flora Expo. Pedestrians say the wall is an eyesore.

It's not really suitable (for the dead wall to be there). But that's how it is. The (plants) should be replaced periodically, (or else the plants should be watered.) But if it's too hot, there's nothing you can do. (The plants will still die.)

Taichung's Tourism and Travel Bureau says the wall was supposed to come down last year after serving its purpose but Grandcity Hotel asked to adopt it. Perhaps due to internal labor disputes, no one ended up taking care of the wall. The bureau says it has already asked the hotel to fulfill its legal obligations.

But we have no way to confirm if their internal problems are to blame for the lack of maintenance. Under the adoption agreement, they have to be responsible for maintaining the wall. The response we got from Grandcity (Hotel) was they are willing.

The entire wall will have to be redone. The hotel says it will restore the wall as quickly as possible.
