Chair of Taipei Parents' Alliance Endorses Ko|北市家長團體聯盟總會長 籲挺柯反綠

Focusing back to Taipei, will the Democratic Progressive Party support Ko Wen-je in the upcoming Taipei City mayor race? DPP city councilors want the party to nominate its own candidate. The chair of Taipei's alliance of parents' groups, Hsieh Chun-chou, is very unhappy about this. Hsieh, who is also a member of the DPP, says Ko has contributed greatly to education in the city and is calling on all members to throw their support behind Ko.

After playing with virtual reality gear, a rueful Ko Wen-je says the internet is changing the face of education but also widening the difference in education between urban and rural schools. While Democratic Progressive Party city councilors are calling on the party to nominate its own candidate for mayor, Ko has received support from Taipei City parents' associations. The head of the alliance of associations, who is a member of the DPP, is calling on all members to use their vote to suppress the city councilors.

If you betray public opinion, we will use our votes to thoroughly suppress these councilors, who are the bane of their own party's existence.

Too much opposition or support will always backfire. It's probably like this.
In response, Ko said he has done his best to live up to his responsibilities. Meanwhile, DPP Legislator Pasuya Yao said city councilors aren't scared. Yao is aggressively seeking the party's nomination.

We respect him. His attitude is -- how to respect him -- I think city councilors have to live up to their responsibilities and won't be scared off by him.

Yao says 90 percent of DPP city councilors will attend a "protect Taiwan's value, safeguard the capital city" demonstration on the 22nd. Yao said he is very confident about his chances of winning the election and promised to retire from politics if he comes in third.
