Stinky Taichung Lake Will Be Dredged in May|湖水優氧化嚴重 中市豐樂公園臭翻了

The lake at Taichung's Fengle Sculpture Park is going to be dredged next month, finally. The park's man made lake was popular, but now it has an oxidation and odor problem. That's because visitors often litter and it hasn't been dredged in 24 years.

Park visitors dump entire bags of feed into the lake. Although the ducks get a treat, the food leads to oxidation. Parents and children enjoy walking around the lake when it's nice out, but few people stay long because of the smell.

The smell was really strong when I first got here. They should see if they can get some outside water source to feed the lake.

Taichung's Fengle Sculpture Park opened in 1996. The lake was designed with an impermeable aquiclude. Silt that has accumulated over the years has to be manually maintained. The local borough chief says the dredging job in May will use water engineering methods so the problem can be solved once and for all.

(Possible solutions include water) circulation and this type of gravel method. We will look at possible pollution management methods for the park.

Fengle was once Taiwan's best artificial lake park but this is no longer the case due to environmental and ecological issues. Environmental groups say regular maintenance is a must if water engineering is not an option.
