Eslite Shutters Another Kaohsiung Store|去年以來第3家 誠品再關高雄大統和平店

Eslite Corporation will close its Kaohsiung President Department Store branch next month. Many local residents were saddened by the news. Eslite said it is closing the bookstore because its lease expired, and it is has plans to open at a new location in northern Kaohsiung.

There are many signs inside the Eslite Corporation bookstore located in Kaohsiung's President Department Store notifying customers of the store's imminent closure. The store opened 19 years ago, and is scheduled to close on May 13. Many customers were saddened by the news.

We're losing yet another place where we can read books. It's quite sad actually, because Eslite was a great bookstore. Having these types of bookstores is good for students.

This location was adjacent to a university and a metro stop. The department store's manager says the customer base of bookstores is quite stable compared with other types of stores, and adds Eslite never showed much interest in renewing its lease.

This area is a very mature cultural and commercial district, and there are many people who love books and actually purchase books. Its Q1 figure was actually very good. Bookstores also have stable business. In the end, we have to respect Eslite's decision.

In August last year, Eslite closed two of its Kaohsiung branches. This year, it will be closing a third, leaving only four outlets. It says it has plans to expand in central, southern and eastern Taiwan this year, and will open a new store in northern Kaohsiung in the second half of the year. It may even open a flagship store in the future. It added this closure was prompted by the expiration of its lease.
