Cargo Transport Fees Going Up with Gas Prices|油價飆40個月新高 貨運.宅配恐漲

Gas and diesel prices hit a 40-month high this week. That's due to rising global oil prices. This will affect not only drivers but consumers as well. Taiwan's cargo transport association applied to raise prices by NT$2 to NT$10 last week.

Gas and diesel prices rose NT$0.6 per liter to a 40-month high this week. Cargo companies reportedly filed for a price adjustment last week.

Diesel prices have risen to NT$27 - NT$28 a liter, which means the cost of cargo companies is going up 3-8 percent. We have submitted many price hike applications to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications.

One cargo company says it lowered prices on two occasions two years ago due to falling gas prices. For every NT$1 gas prices go up, cargo companies face costs of up to NT$10 million more per year. The basic cost of cargo transport has reached the adjustment threshold, which is why the trade association decided to submit the application. PChome subsidiary PC Home Store, meanwhile, adjusted its minimum free delivery threshold from NT$0 to NT$99 per order in March. The minimum order for free delivery has already been hiked twice this month to NT$199 and then to NT$299.

The more you buy, the higher their margin. They can therefore share some of the shipping cost. If you buy less and their margin is less, they can't. The cost of everything is going up now.

In addition, the minimum order for free delivery to convenience stores went up from NT$0 to NT$99. PChome says its shipping policy may be adjusted again in May. Not all e-commerce companies are raising their shipping fees, however. Shopee, for example, says it will cut its convenience store delivery charge for orders of NT$299 or more to NT$30 later this month.
